During 2010 / 2011 the Rotary Club of Gungahlin participated in a number of international Rotary and non-rotary projects as outlined below.
This year delivered a number of large scale natural disasters in Australia, New Zealand Pakistan and Japan. This confirmed that once again donating to ShelterBox Australia was a positive move to aid disaster recovery and a donation was given from club funds. In addition to this public donations collected were sent to the Rotary District 9710 Disaster Relief Fund.
A financial donation was made in support of the Rotary Oceanic Medical Aid for Children (ROMAC).
We continued sponsorship of Neema Mziray a teacher at School of St. Jude in Arusha, Tanzania.
For the third year in a row the club participated in Operation Christmas Child, run by Samaritans Purse. Club members donated shoe box size boxes filled with gifts and donated their time to assist at the regional processing centre.
A financial donation was made in support of the Fred Hollows Foundation
A financial donation was given to the New Life Centre in Nepal to assist in the delivery costs of children’s nonfiction and fiction English books. In addition several large boxes of books were donated by a club member.
A financial contribution was made to the Polio Plus and the Rotary Annual funds Programme.
For our first venture as a club into the Ambassadorial Scholarship Programme concluded as we formally farewelled US Scholar Michelle Jester in November 2010. Michelle was a pleasure to host and was a regular at club meetings and activities. She will be greatly missed and we wish her every success for the future.
The Rotary Club of Gungahlin also named Rotarian Stephen Bell as a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of his contribution to the club and service above self. While Rotarian Vance Jones was named a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of his dedication, support and guidance to our club and the service activities it takes on.
