An increase in vandalism to the Yerrabi Pond Hill (a 2009/2010 project) and surrounding playground area brought Parks Conservation and Lands (PCL) and the Club together to repair the damage, after 3 incidents it was clear a better long term solution was needed. A joint media realise representing both organisations equally was released highlighting our concern and disappointment. We continue to work together and build the relationship based on the Memorandum of Understanding in developing the open parklands for all Gungahlin residents and visitors.

Once again the Rotary Club of Gungahlin participated in the Bowelscan project, as a joint initiative with the Rotary Club of Aurora Gungahlin. The project campaign ran from 5th March to 2nd April and kits were available through six local participating pharmacies.

Though a high priority for the club the Community Committee was not able to establish an additional Probus Club during the 2010 / 2011 year, the main issue was finding an appropriate venue that was both available and cost effective. The Committee is still looking at options and hopes to establish a Probus in the coming year.

The proposed dirt bike jump has been a project of Canberra off Road Cyclists (CORC) for five years now and has come up against many hurdles including sourcing an appropriate location and approval from a number of government departments. The Rotary Club of Gungahlin joined the project early in 2010 to assist it through the approval process, working with CORC, Parks Conservation and Land (PC&L) and Roads ACT and has now passes all of its approval process. The Yerrabi Pond District Dirt Jump Park was fenced off as a construction site in June and building on the beginner and intermediate jumps and pump track will commence in July. The Rotary Club of Gungahlin’s involvement in this project will continue into the new Rotary year and until its completion.

A financial donation was made is support of the Snowy Hydro Southcare Helicopter and Technical Aid to the Disabled ACT (TADACT). The Committee plans to continue its support of Local charity organisations in the future.

There were seven different types of fundraising events, while not all provided a multi level aspect most did. This year the club saw the introduction of catering in addition to fundraising BBQ’s. This has assisted with our clubs reputation and networking within the professional community. Trash and Treasure cleanup remained a consist fundraiser throughout the year. The Club will continue with the same arrangements with the Rotary Club of Aurora Gungahlin without 2011/2012. The 2010 the Rotary Spring Cycle was held on 10th October as a joint event with the Rotary Club of Woden. Under the agreement the Gungahlin club was responsible for the marketing and sponsorship of the event as well as providing volunteer marshals and hosting the BBQ on the day. There is now a new agreement between the two clubs for the next 3 years. The Spring Fashion Parade was held on 29th August with the addition of a menswear category. Once again we accepted the invitation from The Rotary Club of Woden to assist with car parking at Canberra Show. We also accepted an invitation from the Rotary Club of Canberra North to assist with AIS Parking. Over a period of 3 weekends in December the Christmas Ham Wheel Raffle was held at the Gungahlin Market Place, and was well received by the public.
